La Vergne changes chipper service rules
City Chipper Service
The Public Works Department of the City of La Vergne, provides a chipper service all year to the residents of the city free of charge.
Guidelines for the service are as follows:
1. The pile of brush must be left within four (4) feet of the edge of the road. This allows the crew to have access to the debris without making a mess in the resident’s yard.
2. The maximum diameter of the limbs is six (6) inches. Anything thicker than that will not be picked up.
3. The pile of brush can be no larger than three (3) feet by ten (10) feet. If you think you will have more than this, consider laying out one pile for now and the other pile next month.
4. The chipper cannot handle vines, loose leaves or root balls.
5. Do not include in your pile the following: plastic, metal, wire, cardboard, paper or glass.
6. The City will not chip limbs that have been cut by a commercial trimming service. The service should remove any debris generation by its operations.
There is no need to schedule a pickup. The Chipper service goes across town over a four to six week period. If brush has not been picked up within 4-6 weeks, call the Public Works Department at 793-9891.

La Vergne wins financial award
The City of La Vergne has been awarded with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
This award is the fourteenth straight for the city, according to Finance Director Phillis Rogers.
“We have tried for the award for 14 straight years and have received it for each of those years,” she said. “This is a good reflection on the city as well as our auditors Yeary Howell & Associates, staff and management. We are pleased that we are in good financial shape and that this award certifies that fact.”
The award was based on La Vergne’s comprehensive annual financial report for the year ended June 30, 2008.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial reporting. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report. This report must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year only. Rogers believes that the current financial report also reflects the same professional style of reporting.
“We believe that our current comprehensive annual financial report continues to meet the Certificate of Achievement Program’s requirements,” she said. “We will submit it to the GFOA to determine its eligibility for another certificate in 2009.”
